It might feel like Christmas comes around quicker each year, but, each year, there are signs that ’tis the season once again. First, Mariah Carey starts her annual defrosting. Next, you begin to spot Christmas decorations both on display and on sale around town. And now, Australia Post has released its cut-off dates for the Christmas period.
Last year, nearly 100 million parcels were delivered during November and December, and this year promises to be just as busy. If you want to ensure that your parcel or letter reaches its intended destination before December 25, here are the dates you need to note:
Parcel post cut-off dates
For parcels to NSW, ACT, VIC, QLD, SA, TAS: December 20, 2024
For parcels to WA: December 18, 2024
For parcels to NT: December 16, 2024
Keep in mind, these dates apply for parcels sent to and from metro areas, including Geelong, Gold Coast and Newcastle. If you’re sending from outside a metro location or dropping off parcels over the counter, be sure to allow extra time.
Express post
Time get away from you? You can still send parcels via Express Post to all states and territories until December 23 except for NT, TAS, and WA — you’ll need to make sure anything you want to arrive in those locations are sent by December 20.
Christmas cards
If you’re planning on sending Christmas cards this year, you’re in luck — it’ll cost you just 65 cents to send one to anywhere in Australia. Make sure to mail them by December 16 for same-state delivery and December 13 for interstate. Cut-off dates for sending Christmas cards overseas vary, but it’ll cost you just $3 for any overseas destination.
