Time to plan a trip down south. After mesmerising viewers in London, the immersive BBC Earth Experience is heading to Melbourne. Take a 360-degree audio-visual journey through the seven continents of the world, with narration from the iconic Sir David Attenborough. This technological marvel will use footage from the BBC Studios Natural History television series, Seven Worlds, One Planet. Melbourne is the second city in the world to host this incredible experience. It will open at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday October 27.
BBC Earth Experience
Travel across the seven continents and witness the wonders of the natural world. See fireflies put on a dazzling light show in North America, find snub nosed monkeys huddling for warmth in Asia, and stay closer to home and see cassowary fathers protecting their chicks in Australia.
“Nowhere does epic events like Melbourne and we’re so excited to welcome this immersive and inspiring experience featuring narration from the master storyteller, Sir David Attenborough,” said Steve Dimopoulos, Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events.
There will also be a dedicated classroom space, as well as curated resources for teachers, to help bring the experience to life for students.
The award-winning television series, Seven Worlds, One Planet, celebrated the beauty of life, and highlighted the challenges faced by nature in the modern world. The show stretched across 41 countries, and was worked on by over 1,500 people. It was the most watched factual TV show for BBC One in 2019.
“This collaboration with Visit Victoria, BBC Studios and Moon Eye Productions will deliver a spectacular and educational experience unlike any other,” said Luke Hede, Live Nation Australia Vice President of Touring. “Sir David Attenborough is a global treasure, and the BBC Earth Experience marries his message about the challenges nature faces in today’s world alongside the world’s most incredible footage. Victorians and visitors to the state are in for a real treat.”
While further details about the Melbourne experience haven’t been revealed just yet, the experience in London had a main gallery space for virtual voyaging, as well as interactive, smaller rooms. Stay tuned here for updates and more information.
