Despite the rising cozzie livs, many Australians are looking to start a family, and we’ve got good news: there’s no place like home to raise kids! This is what a study from Compare The Market AU, the home loan comparison website, revealed.
For their research, the platform used a weighted index, taking into account the following factors:
- Safety score
- World happiness score
- Things to do with kids
- Monthly cost of living (in USD per family of 4)
- The percentage of the GDP dedicated to National Family Benefits
- National statutory parental leave combined, in weeks
- Green spaces per capita
- The percentage of child vaccination rates
- The percentage of GDP spending towards national education
Of course, it should come as no surprise that our little slice paradise came out as number one out of 50 cities worldwide! That means that whatever you prioritise most — whether that’s education, safety or access to parks — Brissy’s the place to find it.
Other Australian cities are not far behind, with a whopping four of them making the top 10! Some of the reasons behind this are that our country’s cities are generally considered quite safe, and we can boast a high happiness score and vaccination rates, not to mention the highest parental leave in the world compared to any other country on the list.
Brisbane’s #1 spot
Brisbane scored a 6.457 out of 10, the highest out of any city, mainly thanks to its huge number of green spaces per capita (over 80 parks per 100,000 people!), including stunning South Bank, Roma Street Parklands, and of course our two Botanic Gardens. We also had the second-highest safety score, only behind Helsinki, and as a country are ranked sixth in the happiness score.
Sydney, Perth, and Melbourne round out the top Aussie cities to raise kids, in that order, so we’ve got plenty to be proud of!
