Get ready for your sides to ache from laughing because the highly anticipated annual Brsibane Comedy Festival is coming back with more than 300 events from April 23 to May 25, spanning four iconic Brisbane venues: The Brisbane Powerhouse, The Tivoli, The Fortitude Music Hall, and The Princess Theatre.
With over 100 artists and everything from local to international talent, from standup to alternative Shakespeare and political comedy, it can be hard to choose what to see!
The Opening Gala will start off the festival on the right foot, with an incredible lineup chock-full of hilarious comedians. And, of course, throughout the whole month there will be solo shows from big names such as Danny Bhoy, Claire Hooper and Jimeoin.
For those who are looking for a little something different, there will be themed shows such as Future Science Talks: Comedy Edition, which features a group of local scientists from Brisbane partnered with comedians, who infuse humour into their scientific talks, and Sh!t-faced Shakespeare, which is exactly what it sounds like: a rowdy, drunken performance of The Bard’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream that’ll have you rolling.
If it’s still hard to decide, why not hit up a group showcase like Best of the Edinburgh Fest, featuring exceptional international talents Mark Simmons, Andy Askins and Harry Stachini. You can also witness the power of humour in storytelling at Queerstories, presenting a stellar line-up of unexpected tales delivered with warmth and wittiness by some of Australia’s best LGBTIQ+ comedians. Or yet another unmissable show, the Aboriginal Comedy Allstars, starring Australia’s premier First Nations comedians Andy Saunders, Elaine Crombie, Janty Blair, Jay Wymarra, Kevin Kropinyeri and Sean Choolburra.
You can also play it cool and go to After Hours, the festival’s late-night variety show with a mix of special acts and top-tier local comedians, with a lineup that will be announced weekly.
Whatever you choose, we advise you to be punctual, as many shows have a lock out policy. Plus, that gives you time to grab a drink and buckle up for some side-splitting fun! Check out the full program and get your tickets here.
