With International Jazz Day coming up on April 30, why not get in the spirit of things and enjoy a live music experience inspired by some of this groovy music genre’s legends? From icons like Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald to Frank Sinatra and Peggy Lee, jazz has left fans with a lot to love. Performed by skilled bands, Candlelight Jazz concerts drift away from the traditional classical form and take on creative freedom.
Kicking things off with a spellbinding tribute, the Candlelight series is showing some R-E-S-P-E-C-T to the one, the only, Aretha Franklin. Listen to a jazz group perform “Say a Little Prayer”, “Amazing Grace”, and many more of the Queen of Soul’s greatest hits.
Candlelight Jazz: Best of Aretha Franklin
Probably one of the most recognisable voices, that of Aretha Franklin vocalises power and emotion. Among the many of her countless achievements, which include her role in the civil rights movement and receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom, her influence on jazz, gospel, soul, and other music genres forms part of her lasting legacy.
Find your seat in the State Library of Queensland for a concert worshipping Franklin’s range, lessons, and rhythm. It’s a one-of-a-kind Candlelight Jazz performance that will certainly make you “think (think), think about what you’re trying to do”. Talented musicians are set to reintroduce you to tracks such as “Chain of Fools”, “Ain’t No Way”, and “Let It Be”.
Fall for the warmth and life embedded in some of the greatest songs of all time. Candlelight invites everyone to spend an evening out immersed in the playful ways and passionate nature of jazz music. What’s more, with concerts taking place twice each night, you can find a time that suits your schedule. Doors open 30 minutes before the show.
