With rising interest rates and the cost of living, it seems more difficult than ever to own property in Australia. And while it’s more affordable to buy in Brisbane than its interstate counterparts Sydney and Melbourne, knowing where to buy can save you a lot of money. Australian real estate agent comparison website OpenAgent has rounded up the cheapest Brisbane suburbs to buy a house or unit in 2024, making it easier for locals and investors to buy this year.
When it comes to buying an actual house in Brisbane, the cheapest places aren’t exactly close to the city, with Greater Brisbane regions such as Somerset, Lockyer Valley and Ipswich making the list. Median house prices for these more affordable Brisbane investment spots range from $390,000 to $440,000.
For units and apartments, the cheapest suburbs to buy in are all within the City of Brisbane. This includes Fortitude Valley, Bowen Hills, Kelvin Grove and Spring Hill, which sport median prices between $414,000 and $485,000.
