After a weekend of above-average rainfall and accompanying floods, Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner has warned about the potential for major flooding throughout the summer.
East Brisbane was hit with 70mm of rainfall in just one hour last Saturday, and through November, Brisbane received more than 237mm of rain, which is twice the monthly average.
As the thunderstorms and flooding are forecast to continue, thanks in part to the ground already being saturated from last month, the Lord Mayor has urged locals to be prepared.
The BOM as well, has predicted showers and storms from today to Wednesday, December 18 at least. As their forecast indicates a 60 to 80 percent change of above average rainfall between January and March 2025, there are concerns that the flooding could be as severe as the record-breaking 2022 events.
And because it’s better to hope for the best but prepare for the worst, we encourage you to register for the City Council’s free Brisbane Severe Weather Alerts, make an evacuation plan and have an emergency kit ready. Stay safe and happy holidays!
