Nature and art find a perfect balance in the beautifully contemplative Phoenix Sculpture Garden and Art Gallery. At this stunning oasis you can feast your eyes on over 100 sculptures made out of alabaster, marble, bronze and onyx, as well as panoramic views across to Moreton Bay and Stradbroke Island.
The garden is perfect for a long stroll: its stepping stone pathways wind all through the space, and wooden bridges take you across crystalline streams, giving the whole place a feeling of hushed magic.
Open to the public since 1995, it was created by the late Graham Radcliffe, who trained in Italy and managed to source a range of unusual marble and onyx while there. The sculpture garden is now run by Mr Radcliffe’s wife, carrying on with their mission of creating a peaceful ambiance surrounded by nature.
Blending his distinctive style with exotic stones, the artist built up a large collection of sculptures, some of them even for sale! The largest piece is Phoenix Germania, which Graham created to commemorate the reunification of Germany. This work is 4 metres high, and gives the garden its name.
Practical information
Phoenix Sculpture Garden and Art Gallery is an easy hour’s drive from Brisbane, right on Mt Glorious.
Although there is limited parking at the top, the walk to the top is not difficult and is well worth the trek.
The garden is free entry and is open on Sundays from 10am to 4pm.
