After all the wet weather, Australian strawberry prices have soared exponentially. The sweet, moreish fruit is currently being sold for up to $11 a punnet, and look, apart from it feeling like daylight strobbery, we’re not sure how we feel about it. But we certainly know how we feel about this Strawberry and Dessert Festival that’s returning to the Moreton Bay region: berry good!
Held at Sandstone Point Hotel on Saturday, September 10, the Strawberry and Dessert Festival couldn’t come at a more perfect time. The weather will be warming up, the cold drinks will be free-flowing, and the ocean might even be bearable to swim in by then.
But hey, let’s talk about what’s on at the festival. Sandstone Point Hotel is set to put on a pretty cool show to celebrate the beloved strawberry, firstly by painting the bar pink to set the scene. Then of course, the menu for the day will feature everything from strawberry-infused cocktails, milkshakes ice cream to scones with fresh strawberry jam as well as chocolate-coated strawberries.
The Moreton Bay region is Australia’s largest strawberry-producing area, so it’ll be one big celebration of local produce.
Aside from the food and drinks though, which to be fair, already has us convinced, there will also be a strawberry eating contest, cooking demonstrations including one involving a dessert cocktail as well as live music and fireworks.
