Journey back to the time of glamourous parties, sizzling jazz and covert speakeasies with Brisbane’s newest hidden hotspot: The Ruby Jazz Club.
Tucked away behind a non-descript red door in a quiet laneway, this secret nightlife experience is gearing up to open its doors and let you peek behind the curtain. A hidden world of live music, classic cocktails, and 1920s-inspired charm, this is a true speakeasy dedicated to the art of jazz.
With no signage and an air of mystery, you’ll enter through an unmarked door to
discover an intimate, art deco–inspired venue reminiscent of a New York jazz club. Inside, a cosy, atmospheric escape where the focus is firmly on live music, connection, and experience.
The brainchild of Brisbane jazz pianist Meredith Brothers, The Ruby Jazz Club was born from a deep passion for the genre and a desire to support the next generation of jazz musicians.
A mature-age student of jazz himself, Brothers recognised a gap in the city’s live music scene: “Brisbane is full of incredibly talented jazz musicians, but there aren’t enough dedicated spaces for them to perform.
“The Ruby Jazz Club is about creating a home for jazz — and introducing it to a new generation. Jazz is not dead.”

What to expect
The Ruby Jazz Club will offer distinct experiences depending on the night you drop by. Friday nights will be ticketed, and will feature a focused, concert-style setting with exceptional local and international jazz artists.
Saturdays, on the other hand, will be free entry, with a more relaxed, social atmosphere, perfect for showcasing local emerging jazz duos and trios, acting as a backdrop for conversation, drinks, and musical discovery.
Of course, both nights will offer a selection of easy bites to enjoy between sips and sets, with a full cocktail list, including playful Prohibition-era creations — some served discreetly in
teacups (wink).
Practical information
The Ruby Jazz Club will open its doors on Thursday, April 23.
Its regular opening hours will be Fridays and Saturdays from 6:30pm until midnight.
