Google has just revealed their Year In Search 2025, and we know the top Google searches Aussies made along the year. These include everything from the practical — how to prepare for a cyclone, how to vote — to the idly curious, like Belle Gibson. The Google Year In Search is always an interesting snapshot of the biggest moments throughout the year, as well as the day-to-day questions we all ask ourselves… and our phones.
What were Australians searching for in 2025?
A few of the top Google searches in Australia this year were related to Cyclone Alfred — which was later downgraded to tropical storm — including how to prepare for it. Also high on the list of Aussies’ priorities were the elections and how to vote in them.
It wasn’t all work and no play though. Other top searches include “Bianca Censuri Grammys”, alluding to the designer’s infamous see-through dress at the red carpet, as well as Belle Gibson, whose Instagram wellness scam was portrayed in the Netflix series Apple Cider Vinegar.
This year, Australians spent a lot of time in the kitchen, as Recipes was another major category in our trending searches. From viral treats like Dubai chocolate, to all-time classics like hot cross buns, Aussies tried their hand at making treats themselves.
Other highlights included sports, with cricket taking the cake for the most buzzy topic, generating searches such as India vs England, India vs Australia and Women’s Cricket World Cup. Soccer was also well represented in the lead up to the 2026 World Cup through searches like English Premier League and Champions Trophy.
Overall, Australia’s Google Year In Search 2025 reflects a slice of the Aussie lifestyle: our love of sports and foodie tendencies, as well as how we deal with practical everyday matters. You can see the full report here, both for Australia and worldwide.
