Thinking about going overseas? Well, you can feel confident in your travels, because Australia has one of the most powerful passports in the world. The Henley Passport Index, the original and authoritative ranking of the world’s passports, released their rankings for 2025. It assesses the number of destinations that can be accessed without a prior visa. It takes data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and includes 199 different passports to 227 travel destinations.
After a couple of price hikes, we’ve managed to keep our 6th place in the rankings, which means we have access to 189 destinations. Joining us in 6th place are our friends from Greece.
For the first time in seven years, Japan is in second place and not in the top spot; that one goes to Singapore, which has visa-free access to 195 destinations. New Zealand has moved up a spot to number 5, and is joined by many European countries and South Korea.
The top 10 countries are:
- Singapore (195)
- Japan (193)
- Finland, France, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Spain (192)
- Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden (191)
- Belgium, New Zealand, Portugal, Switzerland, United Kingdom (190)
- Australia, Greece (189)
- Canada, Malta, Poland (188)
