This weekend is all about NRL Magic Round, and tens of thousands of fans be at Suncorp Stadium, cheering and booing under the sun.
And while we all love a bit of sunshine, it can come at a high cost. Queensland, unfortunately, has the highest skin cancer rates in Australia, with more than 350,000 non-melanoma skin cancers treated annually and over 3,600 melanoma diagnoses each year.
Preventative and specialised healthcare is absolutely crucial, yet many of us tend to delay anything that seems non-urgent due to the cost of living and ever-present financial pressure. If this sounds like you, we’ve got good news: The Australian Skin Cancer Foundation is bringing free, full-body clinical skin checks directly to NRL Magic Round.
It makes sense; the organisation has found that screening directly into major sporting environments helps remove barriers around cost, time and access, while reaching Australians in settings where cumulative UV exposure risk is elevated.
So, this May Skin Cancer Awareness Month, the Foundation’s mobile clinic is offering walk-up skin checks powered by world-first 3D VECTRA imaging technology, helping make early detection more accessible in a high UV-exposure environment.
Importantly, previous Suncorp Stadium activations identified 16 suspicious lesions, including four suspected melanomas, from just over 30 checks conducted, reinforcing the clinically significant rate of suspicious findings uncovered through community sporting activations.
