Based on the 1988 hit Tim Burton movie, Beetlejuice The Musical follows the story of Lydia Deetz, a goth teenager with a somewhat morbid interest in death, whose new house is haunted by a recently-deceased couple. Upset about her mother’s passing, and feeling betrayed by her father’s engagement to a new woman, Lydia seeks out the help of a slippery demon, but she may get more than she bargained for!
And now, after a hugely successful run in Melbourne earlier this year, eight-time Tony Award-nominated musical is returning to Australia — and coming to Brisbane this time — next winter after its international tour!
Broadway star Andy Karl, best known for his work in Groundhog Day, Pretty Woman the Musical, Legally Blonde the Musical and Moulin Rouge! will be leading the Australian leg of the tour.
“I’m dead excited to drag my striped suit all the way Down Under!” said Karl. “Taking over the role from my friend Eddie Perfect has both the excitement and terror of riding a sand worm into the Netherworld. The best part? I get to haunt the stage every night with my gorgeous fiancée Elise. Brisbane, lock your doors… Beetlejuice is moving in!”
His fiancée, Elise McCann will reprise her role from the Melbourne season as Barbara Maitland, as will Karis Oka as Lydia Deetz, Rob Johnson as the sweet but clueless Adam Maitland, Erin Clare as ditzy Delia Deetz, and Tom Wren as Lydia’s dad, Charles Deetz. The rest of the cast is equally talented and round out a ghoulishly delightful ensemble.
Speaking about the Brisbane season, Producer Michael Cassel said, “I am ecstatic to announce we will be bringing BEETLEJUICE THE MUSICAL to Brisbane in 2026. I know that Queensland audiences are going to love this show which is full of humour, heart, and world-class performances. We have assembled some of Australia’s most extraordinary talent for the production, including the incredible Andy Karl as Beetlejuice.”
