Whether you’re a couch potato or a seasoned runner, running clubs are a great way to be active and meet people. And even if you think running is not for you, never underestimate the power of a little treat waiting after the finish line: many clubs offer beer, coffee or other post-workout goodies!
Unfit Running
Possibly the best known entry on this list, Unfit Run Club is known for its foundation of beer, coffee and, of course, running. On weekdays, the post-run treat is gelato and beer, and on Saturdays, coffee. You can find out when and where the next ones are happening on their Instagram.
Sparrows Run Co., New Farm
Sparrow’s gives “early bird gets the worm” a whole new meaning with their Friday morning runs leaving from Howard Smith Wharves’ GiGi’s Cafe. With new routes popping up every so often and fun events being hosted every so often, this run club is sure to keep you on your toes!
Fitaz Run Club, Kangaroo Point
Known for being one of Brisbane’s best gyms, it’s no surprise that Fitaz’s run club is also incredible. For those looking for a more structured approach, this club consists of a 4-week program for all levels of fitness every Thursday morning, so not only will you be running and socialising but actually working with coaches to improve your endurance and speed!
Run Society, West End
Another structured club, Run Society is a 12-week program focused on improving members’ stride through interval training and a Testing Week so they can track their progress and keep motivated. And, for an extra push, an MVR (most valued runner) is also named after every session, which are held on Monday afternoons and Friday mornings.
Brisbane Girls Run Club, Newstead
This one’s for the girls! Every Wednesday morning, Brissy girlies —and even their pups! — can get together for a nice run or walk, as all levels are welcome and nobody gets left behind. Stay for a much-needed post-workout coffee — potentially some piping hot tea — and make some new friends!
SoSo’s Run Club, Newstead & South Brisbane
Launched by two friends — Sophie and Sofie — whose love for community runs snowballed into running with over 100 people every Saturday morning, good vibes are part of this club’s DNA. Over two years later, SoSo now meets on Saturday mornings as well as every other Wednesday evening in Waterfront Park and Fishbowl, respectively. Routes are 5km and all levels of fitness are welcome!
Mum Run
Founded by personal trainer — and mum — Tilli Conias, this club gets together every Sunday morning at different locations, which you can check on their Instagram stories, for lively conversation, motivating runs/walks and post-workout treats!
Fearlss Walk And Run Club, South Bank
Fearlss Walk and Run Club promises not just the inevitable endorphin rush after a Saturday morning 1km to 5km run or walk, but an irresistible breakfast at Nodo Donuts afterwards! With stunning views of the ferris wheel and even prizes for most improved, there’s no better start to the weekend!
Club KT, Newstead
Club KT director Katie Dall is a personal trainer and running coach with a deep understanding of the need for community-based outdoor fitness sessions so, with this in mind, she launched free run clubs in addition to her private coaching sessions. Every Monday and Wednesday afternoon you can join her and other likeminded Brisbanites for a run and, for a lighter pace, on Friday mornings and one Sunday morning a month you can go at your own pace with her walk run club. Enjoy post-exercise refreshments — drinks or coffee, depending on the time — at Fishbowl, Woolshed, Felons or Via Retro Cafe Van. Stay updated through her Instagram.
Got The Runs
Changing locations every month — you can stay updated through their Instagram — means different post-run sweet treats every month, and with its amazing, laidback vibes and welcoming atmosphere, Got The Runs makes running easy every Sunday morning!
Scossies Run Club, Kangaroo Point & Gold Coast
Monday and Friday mornings, and every other Wednesday evening, this expat-friendly run club, founded by Scottish expat Eildah, invites you out for chill runs that prioritise fun and socialising, offering post-run treats from Joey’s Brisbane, Better Beer and Nectar Espresso.
