Brisbane’s most Scottish suburb is hosting a celebration of all things Celtic. Named by Thomas McIlwraith, a Scottish-born Queensland premier, Auchenflower’s name comes from the Gaelic words for field of flowers (‘Achadh nan Flùr’).
Fittingly, Moorlands Park will come alive for the Brisbane Celtic Festival! A whole day with Celtic music, dance, and culture, the event will feature vibrant local bands like Moreton Celtic Fiddle Club, Australian Celtic Women, Limerick, and Ishka. The soaring voices of the Queensland Irish Choir will also delight attendees, as will indiviual pipers, and the unforgettable spectacle of the Massed Pipe Bands!

With all this music, you best believe there will be dancing: You’ll get to witness the precision and energy of Scottish Country Dancers, Scotia Highland Dancers, and QIA Irish Dancers.
Little ones will also have plenty of fun activities to participate in, like a kilt and tartan race, and even a caber toss for the strongest kids! This is all in addition to the playground at the park, as well as a Best Celtic Dressed competition.
Practical information
The Brisbane Celtic Festival will take place on Sunday, October 11 from 9am to 3:35pm.
It’s free to attend, and we recommend taking public transport, as parking is scarce near the park. You can take a train to Auchenflower Train Station — which is a short 2-minute walk from the park — buses travelling via Coronation Drive on routes 444 or 445, or a CityCat to the Regatta Ferry Terminal, which would mean a 10-minute walk to the park.
You can stay updated on their Facebook event page.
