The Brisbane Illustration Fair (BIF) is splashing the Brisbane Showgrounds in colour once again on September 27 and September 28! Established in 2023, BIF is a vibrant event showcasing, celebrating and promoting the work of illustrators from Brisbane and surrounding regions. It offers a dedicated platform for illustrators and artists to share, connect, and sell their work directly to the public.
Founders Joanna and Jenaya are working illustrators themselves, so it’s no wonder that they have a unique perspective and understanding of what the industry and artists need. Having noticed a clear lack of representation and dedicated spaces for illustration within Brisbane’s creative landscape, and a divide between graphic design and illustrative arts, they created BIF to fill that gap.
This grassroots passion project aims to inspire, foster community, and champion creativity, all while giving Brisbanites the opportunity to discover new artists, styles and pieces that speak to them. Their first fair, held at Spring Hill Hall, featured only 26 artists, a striking contrast to their most recent edition at Superordinary earlier this year, which hosted more than 170 artists!

Because BIF is all about democratising access to illustration and, in turn, allowing for illustrators to find new audiences for their work, the fair includes and accepts all styles of illustration. You’ll find everything from digital and traditional illustrators, graphic designers and comic book artists to zine and print makers, and digital and traditional paper-based artists.
This year’s BIF will have a whopping 200+ artists over two days showcasing and selling their work, but that’s not all! The Artisan Market will allow you to shop for unique illustrated items of all kinds, supporting and connecting with local artists and, if you’re something of an artist yourself, you can even try your hand at it at their Creative Zone or join a workshop!
