Let’s go fly a kite! That’s not (just) a Mary Poppins reference, it’s also your plans for this weekend because Tingalpa’s stunning Kite Festival is back!
A perfect day out for the whole family, you’ll get marvel at the sky dotted with spectacular kites, transforming it into a sea of colour showcasing beautifully crafted masterpieces.
What to expect
While it would be tempting to spend the day looking up, we recommend you come back down to earth for a moment so you can enjoy everything the festival has to offer.
There will, of course, be plenty of entertainment for the kids, with a range of activities like face painting and rides, but dads will get to have their fun too, with Carina Men’s Shed in attendance.
As you might have suspected, kite-flying is the star of the show, and there will be a spacious designated area for everyone to fly their kites, alongside professional kite flyers. Plus, we have good news if you decide to attend last minute and find yourself unprepared: you can even purchase a kite at the festival if you don’t own one!
When it’s time to refuel, you’ll be spoilt for choice with mouth-watering food stalls serving everything from ice cream, hamburgers, nachos, hot dogs, hot and cold drinks, BBQ sausages, Vietnamese, waffles, seafood, and more. You can even BYO picnic and relax as you watch kites soar in the sky. Whichever you choose, we do recommend bringing a picnic blanket and chairs.
Furry friends are also welcome to join in on the fun, as long as they are leashed and supervised.
Practical information
This year’s Brisbane Kite Festival will take place on Sunday, August 23 from 10am to 3pm.
The event is free to enter, but a gold coin donation would be appreciated. All proceeds will be used for local and international community projects run by Rotary Club of Brisbane South East, and Rotary Club of Carindale, who organise the festival.
