Taking place from Saturday, July 19 to Sunday, July 20, Brisbane Open House is a free annual event that lets locals and visitors alike explore the hidden architectural gems in the River City and, this year is the biggest edition in 5 years!
With no less than 91 structures on the agenda, spanning historical and heritage-listed spots, and even 10 private architect-designed homes, you’re sure to discover amazing spaces that speak to you. Some of this year’s returning treasures are ABC Brisbane, Brisbane Arcade, Centenary Pool, Newstead House, Roma Street Fire Station and Thomas Dixon Centre. On the other hand, this is your chance to have a peek at sites like Rivière by Aria, Milton House, Morningside School of Arts, St Laurence’s College and Bradbury Park Playscape in Kedron.
One of the coolest offerings this year is the rare opportunity for a limited number of visitors to descend 30 metres underground at the Roma Street Cross River Rail Station cavern! Plus, there will be exclusive, behind-the-scenes access to Brisbane Airport as it celebrates 100 years, as well as the engineering marvels of Wivenhoe Dam and the infrastructure at the Port of Brisbane.
If you like your architecture with a side of insider knowledge, join one of the tours, guided walks and neighbourhood explorations available, including one through Kurilpa. But it’s not all serious business! You’ll get to enjoy free live music and film screenings across the weekend and even participate in, or simply go see, the Brisbane Open House Photography Competition.
Brisbane Open House Chair Malcolm Middleton highlighted the excellence of the 2025 program, which was a 260 percent increase on 2024, saying, “This is a landmark year for Brisbane Open House, not just in the scale of what we’re offering, but in the depth of experience we’re creating for locals and visitors alike.
“Architecture is more than just buildings. It’s about how we shape the spaces we live, work and gather in. It’s about culture, climate and creativity. It’s what leaves a lasting impression on our city’s visitors, and it’s what fills our lives with everyday beauty.”
