Five. Six. Five, six, seven eight! Start your warm up because from August 30 to October 6, the inspiring and talented artists behind Common People Dance Project are draping the Museum of Brisbane — and themselves — in glitter and glamour. Get ready to explore the inspiring stories behind Common People Dance Project, participate in dance workshops, or even compete in a dance showdown!
Partnering with Brisbane Festival, the Museum of Brisbane will turn into a glittering dance party, where the true stars are the community. Celebrate movement and find connection through self-expression and creativity, thanks to the sheer joy of dance.
First up, in the Museum’s Fairfax Gallery, you’ll get to witness stories of identity and belonging come to life in an immersive exhibition titled The People’s Dancefloor.

If you’re looking for something even more interactive though, throughout the spring school holidays, everyone is invited to don their legwarmers and leotards for The People’s Dancefloor Workshops. Led by Common People Dance Project and held in the Museum, these free dance workshops are suitable for all ages and abilities! From tiny twirlers to grooving grandparents, the free drop-in sessions are designed to teach easy-to-follow moves powered by iconic dance anthems.
The culmination of this will be Brisbane’s ultimate dance off on Saturday, September 27 in the King George Square Showdown, where anyone who’s ready to step into the spotlight will join Artist in Residence and “Head Common Person” Neridah Waters for a dance showdown in front of iconic Brisbane City Hall, in a bid to be crowned The People’s Dancefloor Champions.
