Starting on June 10, China Southern Airlines will be increasing China–Australia connectivity even further by upping its flights between Guangzhou and Brisbane, going from four weekly services to daily.
This will mean an additional whopping 48,984 inbound seats to Queensland annually, at a time when the region is very interested in boosting tourism after ex-Cyclone Alfred and looking towards the 2032 Olympic games. Thanks to this increased frequency, the airline will also be able to offer seamless connections through Guangzhou to a wide range of destinations across China, Asia, and beyond, becoming a gateway for Aussies looking to venture further into the continent.
Likewise, this will likely bring even more visitors to our beautiful region, as China has recently reclaimed the top position as Australia’s top source of international visitors, previously held by New Zealand since the pandemic, accounting for 16% of all foreign visitors in February (122,680 trips), according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
For Queensland, specifically, New Zealand and Japan are still ahead of China, but the latter’s number of tourists to Queensland rose dramatically between 2023 and 2024. Now, despite a small dip in February, most likely due to ex-Cyclone Alfred, there’s not doubt that the country’s relationship with Queensland will only become closer thanks, in part, to increased flight availability and affordability.
