Restored buildings from the gold rush era add character and charm to Gympie, with glorious 19th century architecture waiting at every turn, including the Town Hall and The Land’s Office building, now home to the Australian Institute of Country Music. Once you’re feeling parched from all the walking, two-birds-with-one-stone it and have a drink at the gorgeous Mount Pleasant Hotel, Gympie’s oldest pub.
Or, if you’re feeling peckish, drop by any of the cosy cafés and bistros along the street, such as local favourite, SoMa SoMa or The Two of Us Café, which was crowned best café in Gympie in 2024!
If you haven’t had your cultural and artistic fill, head into the beautiful School of Arts Building to the Gympie Regional Gallery — which is free entry! — or the Gold Mining and Historical Museum for some fascinating insight into the town’s roots for only $12.

If you have a soft spot for a country tune or a line dance, we recommend visiting in August, when the annual Gympie Music Muster, an unforgettable toe-tappin’ music experience takes place. One of the nation’s most popular country music events, the festival features a mix of country, roots, blues, folk and rock music, plus workshops, dancing, bush poets, and more, all nestled in the lush Amamoor State Forest.
There’s something for nature lovers too, as Gympie boasts easy access to secluded and stunning Rainbow Beach, and is only a half hour from Noosa Head — recently named among the most welcoming towns in the world — and its beloved beaches and National Park.
