On Saturday, October 18, Kalbar Country Day is coming back for a day full of fun and cre-hay-tivity! From 7am to 2pm, join this celebration of all things country and family entertainment, especially the famous Hay Bale Trail, featuring incredible sculptures!
While the drive is just over an hour from Brisbane, it’s worth it for the chance to enjoy some good old-fashioned country hospitality mixed with rides for the kids, lots of stalls, homemade sweets and jams, plus fresh fruit and veggies!
Start the day with brekkie (for only a gold coin donation) and bush poets that’ll put you in a nature-loving mood, and then meander through the huge markets, selling everything from handmade crafts to mouth-watering homemade cookies and, of course, tasty country fare.

Once you’re feeling energised, try your luck at their mega multi-draw raffle or take a look at the adorable animal farm! Or why not play some country games, like the hay scramble or — since the Scenic Rim is the carrot capital or Australia, with over 600 million grown annually in the region —the whimsical carrot-throwing competition?
Best of all though, is the hay bale comp-hay-tition! Locals spend weeks creating their hay bale artworks, and you should keep an eye out for such amazing creations as Mick-hay and Min-hay Mouse, Slink-hay, the Kalbar J-hay-l (aka a jail of hay bales).

There will be buses available to take you around the trail so you can admire every mast-hay-piece in Kalbar. Some of 2024’s highlights include Barb-hay, Sant-hay Claus and Vege-hay-mite, so we can’t wait to see what 2025 has in store for Kalbar!
Entry to the event is free and you can stay updated through their Facebook page.
