Odds are, you’ve probably seen Australian comedian Mel Buttle pop up somewhere on your social media feed, with her iconic Mum skit videos that many find utterly relatable. This December, Mel is headlining a comedy event fundraiser at The Triffid, alongside some of Brisbane’s finest comedians. What better way to kick off the silly season than with an evening of belly laughs and community support?
Laughs at the Canteen is being run by Community Canteen, a not-for-profit organisation that prepares and serves nutritious cooked meals to those in the local community who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The event is Community Canteen’s first major fundraiser, with proceeds going to the organisation so they can continue assisting people who need it.
“Community Canteen has been providing meals to people around the greater Brisbane community for over 15 years,” Community Canteen director Gavin Hills tells us. “With this event, we are really looking to raise awareness and to create an annual event that the Brisbane community can get behind.”
Aside from Mel, the lineup for the evening includes host Shad Wicka as well as comedians Emma Zammit and Peter James.
The sit-down show will take place at The Triffid on Tuesday, December 12 from 6pm.
