Just like there is no other place like (our) home, there is no other exhibition quite like Neighbourhood Earth.
Featuring the latest in hologram technology, a panoramic theatre experience and a full-size replica of one of the Space Station’s key modules, this captivating exhibit at QueensPlaza Brisbane gives everyone the chance to journey through the galaxy and find out everything we know about space.
Stories from the past and present of space exploration are on show at Neighbourhood Earth with a model of the Mars Ingenuity helicopter and other colossal space technology. However, the exhibition also looks to the future and what may lie ahead in the huge cosmic expanse above our heads. Visitors can even check out a prototype Z2 suit, which will be worn on the surface of Mars.
However, those unable to wait for their chance to explore the void can wander into the dazzling projection show for an impossible journey and a stunning voyage. There’s a double sunrise to see on Mercury, a lightning storm to experience on equatorial Venus, a blue Martian sunset to witness and a descent into Jupiter’s great red spot among the highlights in the multi-screen cinema experience.
Budding astronauts, keen space travellers and future astrophysicists will have their hands full and their brains ticking over throughout their Neighbourhood Earth visit. From finding out their weight on other planets to manning the controls for re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere, there’s heaps of educational fun to be had. Visitors can even explore their billionaire fantasies and launch a rocket at the interactive game station.
Neighbourhood Earth, developed with the help of NASA’s George C. Marshall Space Flight Center and the US Space and Rocket Center, has been created with students and families in mind. But, really, the exhibition is for everyone who has ever looked up at the night sky and wondered about our place in the universe.
Neighbourhood Earth opens on the lower ground floor of QueensPlaza on Saturday 5 November.
