We may love our lovely climate for most of the year, but sometimes even Queenslanders yearn for a winter wonderland! If this sounds like you Northey Street City Farm’s 30th Winter Solstice Festival will scratch your itch.
There’s nowhere better to appreciate the mystery and magic of the season than surrounded by nature, without having to leave the city! Celebrate the changing of seasons with a night of music, markets, bonfire and festivities, all under the them of Return to the Light, inspiring everyone who attends to work together to create a better world for all.
This is at the heart of the values behind the Winter Solstice Festival: community, sustainable living, and creativity. Just as we light our way with fire and lanterns to stay connected with one another in the dark, we seek community and care to find hope during difficult times.
What to expect
Other than the communal festivities, like a bonfire, live music, and more, you’ll get to participate in wonderful, nature-driven workshops such as Cooking on Coals: Native Flavours with Chef Chris Jordan from Three Little Birds, or Bush Tukka Talks and Tastings with Bruce Gululai Phillips from Murri Tukka.
You can also learn some centering and wholesome activities, like gardening, acroyoga, nature journaling, and even origami!
There will be guided farm tours as well, so you can get to know this welcoming community space on a deeper level.
We recommend you bring a picnic blanket, a drink bottle, and a reusable mug (avoid glass), cutlery and bowl. This helps the festival be zero-waste!
Practical information
The Winter Solstice Festival will take place on Saturday, June 27 from 2pm to 10pm.
Tickets start at $44 per adult and $10 per child (ages 6-17). You can get all types of tickets here.
There is also a lovely Pay-It-Forward option where, if you’re able, you can contribute to a pay-it-forward ticket pool, so that people who may otherwise not be able to purchase a ticket can request one. If you need to request one, get in touch at info@nscf.org.au.
