Thin, doughy, crispy, chewy, red, white, there are as many pizza preferences as there are pizza spots, but one thing we can all agree on is that pizza is one of the — if not the — best human inventions. And in honor of World Pizza Day this February 9, here are some of the best places to grab a slice in Brisbane.
Il Molo, Bulimba
Known as much for their crispy crust pizzas as for their stunning riverfront location on the Bulimba boardwalk, Il Molo is already a destination for pizza lovers under normal circumstances. This year, however, from Friday, February 7 to Feburary 9, in honour of World Pizza Day they’ll be offering four specialty pizzas, inspired by the flavours of different countries for only $28 each!
📍1B Oxford St, Bulimba
Hiker Brewing Co., East Brisbane
Hiker Brewing Co. doesn’t just offer tasty craft beers brewed in Brisbane, ranging from Easy Drinking, Stepping Up and Adventurous, they also routinely feature some of the most delicious food trucks around, and World Pizza Day is no exception! Starting at 12:30 on Sunday, February 9, they’ll be serving cheesy handmade ‘za from Queen Pizza. Get it before it’s in the rearview!
📍65 Manilla St, East Brisbane
California Lane, Fortitude Valley
This totally rad laneway, inspired by breezy 1960s California, boasts not one but two pizza places where you can get your fix: New York Slice, for those who are the no-frills, foldable type, and Giardinetto, if you’re looking to load up on toppings and take your time with it.
📍G4/22 McLachlan St, Fortitude Valley
Elementi, Paddington
With chef Stefano Spataro coming in first in all of Australia in the Pizzaiolo category in the World Pizza Championship last year, Elementi is a must-visit, this Sunday or any other day! Weekly specials with inventive flavours such as pumpkin purée with mozzarella, smoked pancetta and balsamic glaze will keep you coming back for more.
📍257 Given Terrace, Paddington
Etna, Fortitude Valley
Etna’s renowned menu is comprised of classics that are sure to be crowdpleasers — like their margherita, made on a delightful sourdough base — and riskier options that pay off in spades, like a pizza made on a zucchini base and topped with tiger prawns, black squid ink pork salame and chilli flakes.
📍5/15 Marshall St, Fortitude Valley
Prova, Stafford Heights
Skilled staff, marvellous ingredients and inventive recipes add up to an experience equal parts unique and authentic at Prova. Masters of the classics, they have also made forays into lesser-known territories, like with their Maremonti (aka, surf ‘n’ turf) pizza, made up of salty pancetta and garlic prawns and topped with lemon and parsley.
📍61 Wilgarning St, Stafford Heights
La Lupa, West End
The less doughy and crispier counterpart to Napoli-style pizza, Roman-style pizza is La Lupa’s specialty, as well as their signature focaccia-like bites, the Lupacchiotti. La Lupa is not afraid to bring the heat and nduja — spicy, spreadable salami — is an integral part of some of their best offerings. Plus, they offer gluten-free bases for all their pizzas!
📍Shop 3/321 Montague Rd, West End
Julius, South Brisbane
A staple of Brisbane’s pizza scene, Julius has long been considered one of the best spots to indulge in some cheesy goodness. Anything you try will be well worth it, whether it’s from their classic rosse or bianche, or one of their more daring weekly specials, which often feature contrasting flavours like nduja and honey.
📍77 Grey St, South Brisbane
Antica, Wilston
From its beginnings as a food truck, one thing has stayed consistent about Antica, and that is its incredible quality. Recently celebrating a 4.9-star rating from over a thousand reviews, the pizzeria shows no signs of slowing down. Gluten-free, with meatballs, their signature lunga… their range of tasty options has something for everyone.
📍Shop 1/70 Kedron Brook Rd, Wilston
Pizzalunga da Carlo, Nundah
Eating pizza by the metre may sound like something out of a kid’s dream, but you can make that dream come true at Pizzalunga da Carlo! Served on custom pizza stands so you can truly admire their size, the most impressive part is still their authentic flavours, including all the Italian classics we know and love.
📍3 Aspinall St, Nundah
Little G’s
This Woolloongabba joint is always a safe bet for mouth-watering slices, whether classics like capricciosa or more controversial, though no less delicious options like smoked chorizo with pineapple and goat cheese. That is just their regular offer, on top of that they have imaginative specials like their spicy BBQ and beef brisket.
📍The Drapery, 64 Logan Rd, Woolloongabba
Superfly, Wolloongabba
Billing their pizzas as “New York X Neapolitan style”, this walk-in only little spot has plenty of charm to go along with their amazing crispy yet chewy and flavourful slices. Aside from all the classics, they have vegan and gluten-free options and a fiery homemade mango habanero sauce.
