Queensland Museum is set to bring a roaring good time for young and not-so-young with the first-ever Queensland Dinosaur Week!
While our Sunshine State may be best known for its beaches, the reef, and the rainforest, it’s also one of the most dinosaur-rich places on the planet! In fact, only a few months ago, Australia’s oldest fossil was found right here in Brisbane.
This explains why, for the first time, Queensland Dinosaur Week will be celebrated state-wide and is set to become an annual, world-leading paleo-tourism event, leaving no doubt as to why, 200 million years later, dinosaurs are still stealing the spotlight!
Queensland is home to some of the world’s most significant dinosaur and megafauna discoveries and holds the majority of Australia’s dinosaur fossil finds, positioning it as Australia’s ultimate dinosaur destination.
Nowhere else in the country could you explore World Heritage-listed fossil fields and see Ice Age megafauna, stand beside Australia’s largest dinosaur, walk through the world’s only recorded dinosaur stampede, and come face-to-face with giant marine predators from an ancient inland sea!
As part of this roarsome celebration, Queensland Museum Kurilpa’s A Night at the Museum will be totally dinosaur-themed, with activities like exploring their permanent Dinosaurs Unearthed exhibition after dark, experience dino-mite science live in SparkLab, roaming the Dinosaur Garden, and even snack on dino-shaped nuggets at the Café!
This is only the beginning, as Queensland Dinosaur Week is poised to be a celebration of prehistoric discovery, science and storytelling, driving visitation, education, and pride across our entire region.
The week will bring together fossil-rich communities, museums, researchers, tourism operators and educators to showcase our state’s extraordinary dinosaur, marine reptile and megafauna stories through guided tours, hands-on fossil digs, exhibitions, family events and the launch of The Great Queensland Dinosaur Trail.
