Roma Street Parkland is transforming into every kid’s dream these Easter holidays with Playtopia! With a program packed with free events, and a couple of special ticketed ones, creativity, movement and outdoor fun will be within everyone’s reach!
Children aged 5 and up can explore Cardboard City, a hands-on craft zone where they can build anything their imagination dreams up, add their creations to the park’s sprawling city or, of course, take them home.
Looking to tire the little ones out? You’re in luck because every day will also feature movement-focused activities, from hip hop dance for those who move to their own beat and want to learn high-energy choreography, to Touch Football and AFL, designed for sports lovers of all levels to practise their football skills and learn teamwork!
But there’s even more! Nurture your kid’s love for nature through one of the amazing workshops available over the course of the program. Meet the Bees with honey producers Bee One Third, exploring the Roma Street honeybee hives in an intimate, behind-the-scenes experience with beekeeper Jack. Learn about the tools, techniques and signs beekeepers look for as Jack and his team carefully open the hives and search for the queen bee. Taste honey straight from the hive and even take a jar home!
Or, for little green thumbs, The Great Bug Hotel Build will offer the opportunity for young gardeners to build their very own insect hotel while learning why beneficial bugs are the unsung heroes of the garden. Led by the Queensland team from gardening products specialists Yates Australia, this fun and interactive session will blend creativity with a bit of eco know-how, showing kids how tiny insects help fruit and veggies thrive.
