You don’t have to love it, but you can depend on Qantas to safely get you to your destination. Australia’s largest airline has been named the second safest airline in the world after being beaten by Air New Zealand by a mere 1.5 points. Qantas has previously held the title of the safest airline in the world in 2023 and from 2014 to 2021. And it wasn’t the only Aussie airline to make the list, Virgin Australia was ranked third on the list with Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways rounding out the top 5 according to Airline Ratings. The top 25 airlines on the list were praised for being at the “forefront of safety, innovation, and launching of new aircraft.”
The World’s Safest Airlines for 2024
The rankings are based on several factors such as serious incidents, recent fatal accidents, audits from aviation’s governing and industry bodies, profitability, industry-leading safety initiatives, expert pilot training assessment and fleet age. Bird strikes, injuries caused by turbulence, weather diversions, lightning strikes and other unpredictable events were left out of the evaluation.
