A scenic walk lined with cotton trees that takes you through picturesque seaside cafés, gorgeous beaches and a fun playground? Sounds like the perfect family outing — fur babies included — romantic stroll or even meditative solo walk to us!
Not only are there heaps of things to do along the way, but this short, easy trail is nicely shaded, so you can enjoy the ocean breeze and keep cool. It is roughly an 8km round trip, so you’ll want to make sure you have enough time (around 2.5 hours), energy and water to complete it. Here’s what you can look forward to.

Scarborough to Newport bay walk
The journey will already be off to a stellar start, thanks to Scarborough’s many charming cafés and restaurants, in case you want to fuel up before your walk.
Starting from Kennedy Esplanade, you will immediately find yourself immersed in nature as you go through the Scarborough Beach park, with its beloved kids playground — perfect if you have little ones with you — and beautifully imposing cotton trees.
Continue along the beach, which eventually joins Landsborough Avenue’s footpath, making sure to leave enough time for some breathtaking stops, such as scenic Bill Marsh Lookout. The footpath will eventually turn into Fifth Avenue, and you could make a detour here to see the Gibb brothers’ — better known as the Bee Gees — home, at number 12! The famous duo lived in the area in the late 50s, and even have a Bee Gees Way dedicated to them not far from their old home.
From here, Fortune Street will lead you up to hidden gem Tingira Park, and to Jamieson Park, which is a great place to stop if you need a break, with BBQs available, as well as wonderful local cafés, such as Sea Salt and Vine or the Scarborough Harbour Brewing Co., where you can bask in the sunshine.
You can continue along the beachside, which juts out into the bay, and enjoy some refreshments on the picnic shelters along the way as you take in where you came from. Once you’re sufficiently rested, head back inland and make your way through Thurecht Park — which offers another opportunity for kids to play — and stroll long the seaside until you reach Endeavour Park, where you’ll be back to stunning shady casuarinas and cotton trees, as well as fantastic views of Deception Bay and even the Glass House Mountains, especially on clear days.
Newport’s beautiful canals will represent a natural stopping point for your walk. You can put your feet up at the Anchorage Bakery Cafe, or head back to Scarborough for a pick me up at Landing or Bazil&Co.
