Who doesn’t love escaping into a book? Whether you’re hunting for a rare edition of a classic or you’re an avid collector of unread books — no judgment here! — you can’t miss the UQ Alumni Book Fair. As Brisbane’s oldest book fair, running since 1979, they’ve got the book smarts and street smarts to put together an event that will have all bookworms swooning.
The stunning St Lucia campus at The University of Queensland will have over 130,000 books on offer, with everything from hardbacks and paperbacks, rare collectors’ books, must-reads, and beloved children’s books, some for as little as $1!
If you’re there more for vibes than the books themselves, there will also be DVDs, CDs, vinyls, magazines, sheet music and other pre-loved goodies for sale. All proceeds will go towards student scholarships and research at UQ, so your retail therapy will be for a good cause — other than your happiness!
This beloved annual celebration of books is made possible by volunteers from UQ’s Alumni Friends and other dedicated volunteers who have busily sort through community donations.
If you have little bookworms with you, on Saturday, February 28, deemed Alumni and Community Day, there will be free activities for book lovers of all ages, such as story time, book talks, interactive stations and — new this year — a Kids Character Costume Parade, with prizes up for grabs!
And that’s not the only prize: if you register for the Book Fair before 12pm on Thursday, February 26, you’ll automatically go into the draw to win a box of books of your choosing.
