Brisbane is undergoing some massive upgrades at the moment. Earlier this year, Eagle Street Pier shut down for its $2.1 billion makeover and we’re also getting a new car-free bridge sometime in 2023. Now, Brisbane City Council has finally released its Master Draft Plan for our new public park, where they’ll upgrade Victoria Park (Barrambin) to make way for a nature-lovers playground in the city.
According to the plan, this new and improved green oasis will come with a lengthy list of features including walking trails, high rope courses, a putt-putt course, waterholes, sporting facilities, community edible gardens, wetlands, and even a tree house lookout with spectacular views of the city and surrounding mountains.
Victoria Park (Barrambin) is also set to become a hub for both cultural heritage and creative expression.
The Council has acknowledged the park will be built to include and celebrate Indigenous traditions, stories, education, and culture.
Through immersive experiences, art installations, soundscapes and more, the space is set to become a go-to for locals and visitors alike.
We’ll need to wait a while for this lush new park, with construction slated to start in 2023. By the looks of it, the wait will be worth it, even if it is a few years.
