Spring is the season of flowers, picnics, festivals and, most importantly, mangoes! If you’ve been craving a perfectly ripe, juicy mango, your time is nigh, because Brisbane Markets is holding its traditional Mango Auction in celebration of the Australian mango season.
This year’s first symbolic tray of mangoes will be going under the hammer soon, as it has done for over two decades. Celebrating the arrival of this exquisite fruit for the season, the annual event also raises vital funds for charity. In fact, since its birth, the Mango Auction has raised more than 1.2 million for Queensland charities!
Brismark Chief Executive Officer and Brisbane Markets Limited Managing Director and CEO Andrew Young stressed the importance of the event for both the Brisbane Markets community and the charities it supports: “The Brisbane Markets Mango Auction is one of our most anticipated event of the year. It brings our industry and the wider community together to celebrate the arrival of mango season while raising much-needed funds for two remarkable charities.
“Every bid, raffle ticket purchased, and donation helps make a genuine difference, and we are proud of what the Brisbane Markets community has achieved together over more than two decades.”
This year’s charities are Redkite and The Lady Musgrave Trust, which help provide practical support to families facing childhood cancer, and support young women experiencing or at risk of homelessness, respectively.
Attendees will get to enjoy a morning of entertainment, charity raffles, sausafes, and a tempting lineup of donated auction items, before the star item: the symbolic first tray of mangoes. The winning bidder not only gets to take the tasty fruit home, but they will aren the coveted title of Mango Monarch.
