Known as “the best little town on the Downs”, charming Allora, where Mary Poppins writer P.L. Travers lived for some time as a child, is well-worth a visit any time of the year. But if you’re thinking of going, this weekend, January 24 and 25, might be the best one to make the 2-hour drive from Brisbane and join the Allora Heritage Weekend!
The sights, sounds and stories of generations past will roll into Allora, as the region and visitors from all over celebrate 31 years of history, machinery and community. Since 1995, this event has been a fixture on the Southern Downs calendar, drawing families, vintage enthusiasts and people from all over the Sunshine State to celebrate Australia’s rural and mechanical heritage.
As the President of the Allora Heritage Association, Graeme McMillan, put it, the even continues to thrive largely because of the community: “The Allora Heritage Weekend is about more than machinery — it’s about people, memories and coming together as a community. We’re incredibly grateful to our volunteers, exhibitors and supporters who make this weekend possible year after year.”

What to expect
This year’s event will feature an impressive display of vintage and veteran cars, trucks, motorcycles, engines and historical machinery, with a special focus on Case and Caterpillar tractors, alongside English trucks, classic utes, Landrovers and motorcycles.
But it’s not all displays! You can also look forward to the ever-popular tractor pulls, novelty events and full grand parades — all led by the Light Horse, honouring Australia’s military heritage — that will keep the main arena buzzing across both days.
If you fall in love with some of what you see, there will be a Swap Meet running from 6am on both Saturday and Sunday, offering a treasure trove of parts, collectibles and memorabilia for enthusiasts and browsers alike!
Once you’re feeling peckish, indulge on the on-site BBQ and enter one of the raffles while you’re at it. Wash it all down with an ice-cream or snow cone as you stroll along the grounds.
