Get ready for the Brisbane Botanic Gardens to light up with stunning Australian animal lanterns with Botanic by Night: NightGlow!
Follow an 837-metre route through sections of the Queensland Conservation Trail and Gardens Explorer Trail and spot the 11 massive lanterns shining in the dark. With some sculptures standing up to 2.3 metres tall and stretching up to 4.6 metres long, the collection, which includes a koala, platypus, emu, dingo, echidna, kangaroos, brushtail possum, green tree frog and ibis, has been thoughtfully designed as a low-impact experience that respects its natural setting.

And it’s not just an aesthetic experience: The lanterns were designed by Ample Projects in collaboration with First Nations artists Casey Coolwell-Fisher (Quandamooka, Nunukul) and Nathan Packham (Tubba-gah Wiradjuri), with interpretive storytelling exploring the connections between animals, plants, water, people and Country.
As Casey Coolwell-Fisher explains, the animals provided an opportunity to bring cultural storytelling and connection to Country into one experience. “Each animal has its own character and its own place within Country, and it was important for us to bring those stories into the artwork. We hope visitors are drawn in by the animals and leave feeling more connected to our native animals, Country, and the world around them.”
Bask in the glow and the lush surroundings for longer and make a whole night of it, with food trucks including Brazzo Boys, Feel Good Foodie, Best of the Wurst, Oh Waffles and Di Piu Tiramisu serving up dinner and treats that’ll make the experience that much sweeter.
