To celebrate Lunar New Year, BrisAsia Festival is set for a show-stopping return, bringing with it a slew of festivities. Over three huge weeks, get a taste of culturally rich Asia right here in Brisbane. 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit, which symbolises luck, good fortune, peace, beauty, and creativity.
The 2023 edition of the festival, running from February 1 – 19, is packed with events and experiences, bringing together over 400 artists and creatives. You can expect to find everything from Lunar New Year celebrations to exhibitions, live music, dance parties, workshops, comedy, and more.
The BrisAsia Festival Launch Party will kick off the festivities with contemporary performers, lion dancers and martial arts displays, taking over Fortitude Music Hall for a night of fun (K-pop and drag included).
A festival-first to look out for is Soul Gazing: A Journey through the Cosmic Skydome. This is an immersive sound and digital imagery experience held at the Mount Coot-tha Observatory, where themes of place, culture, belonging, and meaning are explored.
For the foodies, the Asian food truck event Southside by Night is a must, as well as LanewayParTEA, a festival dedicated to tea.
“The depth and breadth of traditional and contemporary Asian culture, art, cuisine and philosophy on offer is a testament to the diverse peoples who call Brisbane home,” says BrisAsia Festival Producer, Dr Anthony Garcia. “I could not be prouder of the record number of talented creative producers helping make BrisAsia Festival one of the highlights of Brisbane’s cultural calendar.”
