The eight most Instagrammable giant letters along the Brisbane River are one of the most photographed landmarks in Brissy. In fact, once meant to be a temporary installation, back in 2014 when it was first designed, it was so well-loved that the permanent iteration, built to withstand the test of time, was soon installed.
Now, the sign has been given a fresh new look, described as a visual love letter to the city, thanks to each letter’s significance and reference to unique characteristics of the region, aiming to showcase Brisbane and Queensland’s best and to reinvigorate the beloved public space.
What each letter represents
Each letter is a different color and shows different scenes and environments throughout the city and beyond, making the sign the perfect ode to everything that makes Queensland a wonderful place.

The original sign was designed and installed for the G20 Leaders’ Summit in 2014, which saw world leaders such as then-US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel visit the city, and built by local volunteers. It’s only fitting then, that this redesign comes in anticipation of the 2032 Olympic games, when Brisbane will have its moment to shine on the world stage.
