Commuting is an unfortunate fact of life for many of us, especially with Brisbane’s population and rent prices on the rise. So much so, that for the first time, Brisbane is in the top 10 most congested cities in the world, according to a report by leading traffic research group INRIX.
The report calculates that the average Brisbanite commuter spent 84 hours — the equivalent of two full work weeks! — stuck in traffic last year. Melbourne is a distant second place in Australia, at number 21 globally.
With the 2032 Olympics on the horizon, coming up with ways to reduce traffic has taken on new importance, and solutions such as the new metro — which is set to begin its services on January 28 — and improving bus stops and bike lane connectivity may prove crucial.
