Maleny is a scenic little town with plenty of art, food and nature to entice visitors, but possibly its biggest draw is the beloved Maleny Botanic Gardens & Bird World the multi-award-winning park specialises in birdlife and will have you feeling like you’re in a Disney movie, with five walk-through aviaries that are home to more than 600 native and exotic birds from around the world, and interactive guided tours, which allow visitors to get up close and personal with the birds!
And that’s just the beginning. There are also farm friends to meet and pet, so you can make furry as well as feathery friends. And even if you’re not an avian fan, there’s the other half of the name: the stunning botanic gardens! Stroll along almost 23 acres of gardens with the breathtaking Glass House Mountains as a backdrop, and the rainforest for scenery. There’s over 8 paradisical kilometres to explore, transporting you at least a million kilometres away from your troubles!
This is inarguably a magical place in and of itself, but guess what? It’s only getting more magical on December 20! Get ready to sprinkle your weekend with a little fairy dust because the Botanic Garden is hosting the perfect day for families, little dreamers and anyone who believes in the magic of nature and the unseen at their Fairy Garden Launch!
From themed face painting, which will turn all who wish it into enchanted creatures like a fairy, and elf or all sorts of woodland creatures. Visitors will get to meet Bella the Macaw, the park’s colourful fairy — and feathery — guardian, and cuddle with the roaming farm animals, with liveliness and whimsy awaiting at every corner!
And that’s not all: every good fairy knows how to work with nature to make their magic all the more powerful and pure. This is where Jane Prior, children’s author, teacher and fairy expert comes in. She will be leading workshops in leaf painting and potion making. Could there be a more perfect blend of imagination and connecting with nature?
Even the snacks will reflect the enchanted vibe of the day, with fairy floss ready to replenish everyone’s powers when they need it most, plus even more spellbinding surprises awaiting in every nook and cranny of the garden!
Practical information
The Fairy Garden Launch will take place on Saturday, December 20 from 9am to 3pm.
A normal ticket to the park will include entry to the event as well. Ticket prices for the Gardens and Farm Friends are $17 per child and $27 per adult. If you want to visit the Aviary as well, that’ll cost $32 per child and $47 per adult.
