The Queensland-exclusive season of the four-time Tony Award® winning musical sensation, In The Heights is lighting up the stage at HOTA with its electrifying blend of hip-hop, salsa and contemporary Latin beats until Sunday, September 21!
Created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the mastermind behind Hamilton and Moana and set in the dynamic neighbourhood of Washington Heights in New York, the musical tells the soul-stirring and multifaceted story of Dominican-American Usnavi and his beloved, lively, and complicated barrio.
Directed by Luke Joslin, this five-star Australian production has been thrilling audiences and critics alike, with sold-out seasons in both Sydney and Melbourne. Now, Queenslanders have the exclusive opportunity to experience this groundbreaking musical phenomenon, the precursor to Hamilton, in all its bilingual glory!
The cast will be led by Ryan González as the protagonist, Usnavi, and Olivia Vásquez as Vanessa, his adventurous love interest, returning to their celebrated roles from the Sydney and Melbourne seasons. Completing the cast will be Mariah Gonzalez as comeback kid Nina Rosario, Ngali Shaw as charismatic taxi driver Benny, Steve Costi as Usnavi’s cousin Sonny, and Lena Cruz as Abuela Claudia, the neighbourhood matriarch, among other outstandingly talented actors who round out the cast and ensemble.
But don’t just take our word for it! As Yarmila Alfonzetti, Experience Gold Coast Head of Arts and Culture, put it, “In The Heights is bursting with heart, music and energy, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome it to our stage. After winning over audiences in Melbourne and Sydney, we know Gold Coasters will fall in love with this incredible production.”
