It all began with Shambush’s 300 Brighton, UK, Kates in 2013, when Kates dressed all in red (red dress, red stockings and black belt) descended on the field to dance to the 1978 Kate Bush classic. The annual re-creation is happening at Frew Park, Milton on Saturday, July 19.
And while new Kate Bush fans have only just been introduced to the British singer thanks to Stranger Things, there’s plenty of time to go from Running Up That Hill to learning the Wuthering Heights choreography in preparation for the big day, which is to celebrate Kate Bush’s birthday on July 30.
To make sure you’re moving the right way, here’s a mirrored version of Wuthering Heights so you can practise at home:
But, if you want to get some group practise in beforehand and even costume ideas, take a peek at The Most Wuthering Heights Day Facebook page for some pre-Wuther parties.
This year’s event, run by Kristian Fletcher, will include practice runs of the song, an instructional introduction to the dance moves, and a chance to mingle and meet Kate Bush fans from all over Brisbane starting at 2pm.
Although the event itself is free, attendees are requested to make a donation on the day, of which a portion will be donated to DVConnect, a not-for-profit telephone crisis intervention service for anyone affected by domestic or family violence in Queensland.
But the party’s not over after the dancings! Following the park event, fans can head to the Polish Club, for a Kate Bush Bash from 5:30pm-8:30pm featuring music videos and tribute performances.
