Kingaroy may be a small town, but it’s got a big personality — not to mention a Big Peanut — and plenty of unique events going on!
Known as the Peanut Capital of Australia, as the iconic silos in the town centre denote, Kingaroy has a much-loved Peanut Van with a list of fanciful flavour options that span everything from horseradish and massaman curry to lime and butterscotch. But these (n)utterly unique goodies are not the only tasty treats to put Kingaroy on the map!
Seven years ago, bacon lover and now Chief Baconeer, Kathryn Stevens had the genius idea of launching a bacon festival. After recruiting friends and bacon-loving volunteers, the first BaconFest was born in 2018, highlighting the quality and the importance of buying Aussie-produced pork products, in the most delicious way possible!
Ever since then, the festival has become a yearly must — with the exception of 2020 and 2021 — for foodies all over Australia! For two days, on Friday, August 15 and Saturday, August 16, Kingaroy’s Memorial Park is hosting the piggest bacon celebration around, starting with Bacon Street Feast.
On Friday evening, get together for over four hours of live local entertainment, mouth-watering food stalls and the incredible smoky smell of the Australian Barbecue Alliance as competitors fire up their barbies.
Then, start the day out right on Saturday morning with a wholesome Big Bacon Breakfast. This community brekky consists of a complimentary bacon and egg burger and, as the most important meal of the day, it’s serving up sides of market stalls and live music, making it a sizzling, egg cracking start to the full BaconFest experience!
Because the meatiest part of the festival is the main event, running until 9pm on Saturday! You’ll get to witness the results of the Australian Barbecue Alliance SunPork Smoke Off, watch celebrity chef demonstrations with none other than Alastair McLeod, cheer during the bacon eating competition and groove to live music, headlined by Golden Guitar winner Troy Cassar-Daley!
