When Victor Hugo first published Les Misérables way back in 1862, he could hardly have imagined it would be adapted into a musical, let alone the longest-running musical in the world. The London production, in fact, has just entered its 40th year and, to celebrate, a legendary arena production of the musical is on a world tour.
No need to be jealous of the crowds in the UK and major European cities because Les Misérables – The Arena Spectacular is finally coming to Australia! See it at Brisbane Entertainment Center from May 28, 2025.
Les Misérables – The Arena Spectacular
It’s fitting for this thrilling show to travel down under, because producers Nick Grace and Cameron Mackintosh first Dreamed a Dream of a Les Misérables concert over 30 years ago in Australia, after a very successful concert at the Sydney Festival.
As Mackintosh put it, “I have long dreamt of taking an Arena Tour of Les Misérables around the world, but I am especially thrilled to be bringing it back to Australia where the outrageous idea of doing Les Mis as a concert began.”
You can look forward to an international cast and orchestra of over 65, including many famous Les Mis stars. This arena tour will feature an extraordinary new design, created specifically for these venues.
Hearing Boublil and Schönberg’s legendary score live, with heart-wrenching and inspiring songs like Do You Hear the People Sing?, One Day More, On my Own and I Dreamed a Dream, goosebumps and teary eyes are almost inevitable.
The Arena Spectacular will feature Alfie Boe and Killian Donnelly sharing the role of Jean Valjean, and Michael Ball and Bradley Jaden sharing the role of Javert. Matt Lucas will return to play Thénardier, and Australia’s Marina Prior will take on the role of Madame Thénardier. Rachelle An Go will play Fantine, Jac Yarrow will be Marius and Beatrice Penny-Touré will play Cosette. Finally, James D. Gish will return as Enjolras.
Tour dates:
- Sydney – ICC Theatre – from April 30
- Melbourne – Rod Laver Arena – from May 14
- Brisbane – Entertainment Centre – from May 28
