Queensland’s most beloved event is almost upon us: Ekka is transforming the Brisbane Showgrounds into a huge country celebration for 9 days full of fun, tasty treats, shows and competitions, from August 9 to August 17!
Dating back to 1876, the Royal Queensland Show, more commonly known as Ekka, welcomes an average of 40,000 visitors every year, with 21,000 competition entries, 10,000 animals, and hours of free family entertainment, making it Queensland’s most important and emblematic event.
And, although the old favourites — think the rides, the fireworks and the iconic strawberry sundaes — make an annual comeback, there are also a few surprises in store every year. Here’s what’s new in 2025.

Discounts and savings
One of Ekka’s most popular traditions, showbags, which started out as a simple bag of coal back in 1876, have evolved to become a colourful and whimsical, family tradition! With over 90 new showbags this year with all the latest toys, gadgets, beauty products, treats, sports memorabilia and more, there’s truly something for everyone.
This year’s new showbags include Jurassic World, Fashion Trendz and Building Bricks, and that’s not the best news! In 2025, with the cozzie livs being what it is, value is front of mind, so prices for showbags will start at just $5, with more than 80 showbags priced at $10 or less, and 160 showbags available for $20 or under.
And showbags are not the only thing getting an affordable makeover. Ekka attendees can enjoy discounted tickets with 20% off Super Saver Days (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday), two for one rides, and more affordable train travel and food options.
The two for one rides sessions will run ever morning from 9:30am to 10:30am in the B105 Sideshow Alley and the Kids Carnival area, so the early birds will most definitely get the two for one worms! And, to help you get there on time for less, train rides to the new Exhibition Station within the Brisbane Showgrounds will be only 50 cents!
If all this talk of discounts is making you hungry for more, you’re in luck! Over 110 vendors this year will be offering treats for $10 or less, and many of the venues will include family bundle options starting at $30 for four people.

New digital enhancements
This year’s ride experience will be made easier and more seamless thanks to the new Ekka Fun Pass app, which acts as a digital ride card you can scan when you go on a ride, skipping waiting time at the ticket booth!
Plus, the unmissable strawberry sundaes will be available for pre-order for the first time ever, if you purchase your Ekka ticket online, and you will also be able to get them in a bundle of 4 for only $25.
Want to keep the fun going? This year, every child who attends the Ekka on Thursday, August 14 or Friday, August 15 will receive a free ticket to thrilling theme park and zoo, Dreamworld! Those with a family pass will receive two free Dreamworld child tickets. The tickets will be valide from September 1 to October 31, and don’t fret: adults will be able to buy their tickets at kids prices!
