On of Australia’s best-selling and most-loved beers, Great Northern, has launched its first-ever flagship venue, Northern Grounds, on the Sunshine Coast, and it’s been designed with all the best Queensland has to offer in mind.
The pub, whose home is the former Waterfront Hotel at Diddillibah, on the banks of the Maroochy River, is inspired by and channels a classic Queensland camping trip, with cosy open fires, communal lounges, a wraparound deck, a playground for the kids and, of course, ice-cold beers with a waterfront view!
Those with keen eyes will spot many other nods to the Sunshine State and it’s outdoorsy culture, like a mural that showcases locals’ favourite fishing hiking and camping spots, and an emphasis on lively meals shared in good company. In addition to the scenic outdoor space meant for long, laidback meals enjoyed in community by the crackling fire, Northern Grounds has two event spaces: The Lodge, for large gatherings, and The Cabin, which is ideal for smaller, more intimate groups.

And we’ve been saving the best for last: the food and drinks. On tap are no less than 24 brews, with the full range of Great Northern as the star of the show, of course, served up alongside other Queensland staples such as Balter, Green Beacon and Hard Rated.
As with every other aspect of the pub, the food menu highlights local classics and fresh, seasonal produce, with one of the specialties being seafood fresh off the boat from Mooloolah River! They also offer all the pub mainstays you would expect and crave after a few pints, like snacks and sharing plates, pizza, parmies and even camping-inspired dishes, such as s’mores for dessert!
Newly opened last Friday, August 15, Northern Grounds is sure to become a destination both for nature-lovers and for those who love the idea of camping more than actually being outdoors. The pub is open seven days a week from 10am until late, so you can drive one hour up from Brisbane and make a day of it!
