School holidays are already chaotic under the best of circumstances, but throw in some transport complications and you may find yourself hopping mad this Easter. Avoid stress and plan your journeys ahead — especially important ones — as there will be some road closures and major train services will be suspended.
What to expect

From Thursday, April 2 at 9pm to Monday, April 13 at 5am, Story Bridge will be fully or partially closed due to maintenance work. Since the bridge sees over 100,000 every single day, it’s crucial to plan for an alternative route in advance.
Until Saturday, April 11 only a single southbound lane will be closed but that, of course, still means more traffic.
It will be fully closed from 9pm on Saturday until 1pm the next day. During this time, traffic will be directed to Captain Cook Bridge and the Clem7 tunnel — whose tolls will be waived during the Tour de Brisbane on Sunday.
This event will mean several road closures, and you can see them all here.
After 1pm on Sunday, one lane each way will be open for the remainder of the repairs.
Pedestrian and cyclist access will remain open.
As for rail, South East Queensland’s trains will suffer major track closures from Friday, April 3 to Sunday, April 26 due to upgrades, including a new digital signalling system, the Cross River Rail, and the Beerburrum to Nambour Stage 1 upgrade.
From Friday, April 3 to Monday, April 6 most lines will be impacted, with buses replacing trains between Gympie North and Caboolture; Northgate, Eagle Junction and Bowen Hills; and Banoon and Boggo Road.
Starting Tuesday, April 7 and until Friday, April 10 all lines will have timetable changes, with buses replacing trains in the same stations as above. Then, on Saturday, April 11, bus services will be provided between Gympie North and Caboolture, Northgate and Bowen Hills, and Varsity Lakes and Boggo Road.
On Sunday, April 12, the only stretch with bus service will be Varsity Lakes and Boggo Road, and from Monday, April 13 to Friday, April 17 Doomben and Eagle Junction will be added to that.
Over the weekend of April 18 and 19, buses will replace trains between Varsity Lakes and Boggo Road, and from April 20 to April 26, Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines will run as a combined service between Varsity Lakes and Banoon. No trains will run between Banoon and Boggo Road, and Doomben trains will run between Doomben and Eagle Junction.
With this information, don’t forget to plan your journeys this month and happy Easter!
