Don your armour because the Southern Realm Festival is bringing history and fantasy to life with the help of re-enactors, armoured combatants, performers, food vendors and merchants at this immersive event. Visitors can experience life in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance — without the black plague and lack of hygiene!
This year’s program is jam-packed with fascinating events and activities, ranging from performances such as re-enactments and armoured combat, to more hands-on happenings like crafts!
At the heart of the Festival are re-enactors, whose passion for history, commitment to their roles, and love of all things medieval will truly transport you to the period’s daily life. Through them, you’ll get to witness fun and unusual activities, like a day in the life of a Crusader, and learn more about the often-ignored stories of women in the Middle Ages.
There will also be a range of activities for the whole family — including tabletop gaming, Dungeons & Dragons, live performances, roving characters, and more.
Feeling peckish? Swing by Fantastic Feasts, a market providing an array of delicious, Middle Ages-inspired food, such as German sausage, and decadent chocolate-covered strawberries. A wide range of traders selling everything from candles and herbs to costumes and hats will make it tough to go home empty-handed!
Practical information
This year’s Southern Realm Festival will take place from Saturday, August 22 to Sunday, August 23.
Tickets are $27.50 per adult for a day pass or $42.50 for the weekend. Children aged 10-17 pay $17.15 for a day or $27.50 for the weekend, and under 9-year olds enter for free!

How to get there
The Festival is hosted at the Boonha Showgrounds. It is roughly an hour’s drive from Brisbane via State Route 93. Once you reach the town, you can follow the signs to the showgrounds, which will guide you straight to the festival gates.
Parking will be available on-site, with overflow options nearby as well.
