Well, as Brisbane’s first romance bookshop, Sweet Chapter Books & Café has taken that lovely, cosy feeling and taken it to the next level, thanks to its warm interior and wide selection of books, from the fluffiest to the steamiest and everything in between.
As soon as you walk in, you’ll be invited to forget all of lives woes and let yourself be transported to a world of romance, whether you favour romantasy, contemporary romance or any other subgenre.
The thoughtfully designed space includes plush couches for readers and coffee drinkers to sink into with their new purchases, and the stocked shelves are organised by level of romance, making it the perfect spot for a girls’ day out, a date with yourself, or even a place to meet people.
Sweet Chapter Books is remarkably community-minded, regularly hosting book clubs — some of them dedicated, like a mums book club — indie author workshops and signings, and activities like book bedazzling!
Founded by Renee Woolnough, the shop could not more clearly be a labour of love. A lifelong dream of hers, exclusively-romance bookshops are surprisingly scarce — this is the only one in Brissy — as romance books sales have more than doubled since 2019.
People’s passion for the genre is obvious, and the team at Sweet Chapter Books is no exception. They are extremely dedicated to their craft, giving personalised recommendations, and spotlighting local talent, often showcasing fresh and emerging authors that you might otherwise not have discovered.
Local authors stocked at the shop include K.E. Barden, Lynise Reid, Millie St Graves, Asha Rose, Tania Joyce, and Nicole Rowles. The signing for Mia K. Rose’s From The Cold, her latest novel was even held at the shop.
Alongside this impressive and swoon-worthy array, Sweet Chapter Books’ freshly-made sweet treats and excellent sandwiches will keep you munching while you turn the pages, and they also stock book accessories, stickers, totes bags, and more.
Practical information
Sweet Chapter Books opens Tuesday through Sunday from 7am to 3pm, except on Sundays when it closes at 2pm.
The shop regularly updates their social media with upcoming workshops, book clubs, and activities.
If you want to drop by, there is limited parking available on nearby Station Road.
