Brisbane is certainly not a newcomer when it comes to secret bars, where finding the venue is part of the fun. Woolloongabba is where it’s at when it comes to bars hiding in tight corners, behind wardrobes, you name it. The latest on the scene is The Copacabana Club, inspired by the famous New York nightclub where iconic movies such as Goodfellas, Raging Bull, The Irishman, and One Night in Miami were filmed.
Located inside the European-inspired deli and bar Mr Badgers, this secret bar is hidden behind Mr Badgers Office Door, which can be found through the deli, past the tram, and into the locker room.
The office door says ‘staff only’, but don’t be fooled. Walk right on through to the secret outdoor bar and courtyard.
Open from Friday ’til Sunday for afternoon and evening sessions, The Copacabana Club is a choice spot for Friday after-work cocktails, dinner and dancing on Saturday nights, as well as Sunday afternoon activities such as music-themed bingo and trivia of the 70s, 80s and 90s.
Events for the bingo and trivia will be held monthly, whereas food trucks pop up for Sunday sessions every week.
In terms of tunes, you can expect to hear plenty of old school, jazz, soul, funk, and blues. Think Frank Sinatra, Carmen Miranda, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, The Supremes, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, and Sam Cooke.
There will also be live music every Friday night from 7.30 – 10pm.
Once every two months, The Copacabana Club plans to host a Corner Pocket Swing dance event, as well as a salsa dancing shindig.
If you’re intrigued by the New York mafia story, then you’ll love a visit to Woolloongabba’s new hidden bar.
